AZGS GOURD ART COMPETITION -JUDGING INFO

If you are already a qualified judge and a current 2018 AGS member, refresher training is free. We appreciate you attending; we'll be presenting criteria specific to Arizona which we anticipate will be adopted by AGS in some form soon.

Tuition for those not already trained is $15, payable in advance. We'll also expect these students to have joined AGS in advance. An AGS membership form is attached.  We'll respond with emailed training materials to all participants.

We ask all attendees to bring a finished gourd that students can use for hands-on judging practice (so not a gourd you intend to compete with at this venue this year!)

Training is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m., and we anticipate being done before 5. We'll share more details with advance training materials. We want all attendees familiar with this when we begin so we can focus on practical exercises.

Please share contact information with me, and mail your checks made out to "AGS" to:

NEXT AZGS MEETING

There will be a meeting of the Arizona Gourd Society membership on Friday, February 9 at 5:30 pm.  This will be held at the bleachers/stage at the Pima County Fairgrounds.  The festival closes at 4 pm, however, as some classes can run up to an hour over, the 5:30 start time should give students, teachers, volunteers and vendors time to wrap things up and attend.

ELECTIONS

It's time to submit nominations for the positions of President and Secretary for a term that runs from post-Festival through December 31, 2019. The election will be held at the 2018 February meeting.  Elections for Vice President and Treasurer will be held in November, 2018 and the term is from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020.

We will also need to vote on a few minor tweaks to the constitution to bring it up to date. For example, changing the positions of newsletter editor and "show chairperson" from elected to appointed.

SOCIAL DINNER AT GOLDEN CORRAL

During the Wuertz Farm Gourd Festival, Saturday night has traditionally been reserved for gathering at the Golden Corral.  To continue the spirit of good food and good times, AZGS encourages all who would like to mix and mingle together to gather at the Golden Corral on Saturday, February 10, at 6 pm.  There will be no officiating and no advance ticket sales.  This is strictly a no-host social opportunity and the Golden Coral has agreed to reserve an area for those of us who show up.  Please identify yourselves as being part of the Gourd Festival group when you pay.
